A quick recipe for our best meat sauce. Bolognese sauce (Italian: ragu) is a perfect choice as pasta sauce. Versatile and tasty, bolognese sauce is an essential ingredient for Lasagna and many other dishes.

Ingredients:

  • Ground Beef (lean)

    1 lb
  • Homemade Tomato Sauce

    26.5 oz (see recipe ↪)
  • Onions (finely chopped)

    1
  • Crushed Red Peppers (optional)

    1/2 tsp
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    1 tbsp
  • Black Pepper

    to taste
  • Salt

    to taste

Cooking Directions:

Cook the minced onion in olive oil in a heavy pot on moderate heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly caramelized.

Add the ground beef and let the meat release its juice. Add the crushed red hot pepper if desired. Cook until no more water is left and the meat acquire a light brownish color

Add the Homemade Traditional Tomato Sauce, salt and pepper and gently simmer, covered, until sauce is thickened, about 20 minutes, then remove from heat


Tips:

Bolognese Sauce fits with many types of pasta such as spaghetti, tagliatelle, penne, rigatoni, gnocchi and medium shells. It is also an essential ingredient for the well known Lasagna (see recipe in our website)

You may use a canned traditional tomato sauce instead of the homemade tomato sauce.
