Before starting, carefully wash the butternut squash.
With a knife, carve off a lid from the top and set it apart. Scoop out all the seeds. Rinse the inside very well.
For the stuffing, fill the inside of the buttercup squash with layers of bread and layers of cheese until you fill the whole inner space of the squash.
Season each layer with salt, pepper, nutmeg and sage leaves.
When the squash is completely stuffed, pour inside the hot broth to soak the bread and melt the cheese. Close with the previously removed top lid.
Transfer the stuffed buttercup squash in a baking pan and add about 1/2 inch of water (or broth).
Bake at 400F for about 1 hour. When ready, remove from the oven and serve.
