Cooking Instructions

For the Meatballs

  • Saute the minced onions in a skillet with one table spoon of the butter.
  • In a large bowl mix the bread crumbs with the milk. Add the Ground beef, the Sausage meat, the ground pork, the onions, parsley, the egg, the Worcestershire Sauce. Adjust with salt, pepper, nutmeg and ginger to taste.
  • Make 1 inch wide balls and bake for 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Consider using a cookie sheet to avoid them to attach to the pan.

For the Gravy

  • In a large pan melt the remaining butter and add the strained flour. Whisk until lightly brown.
  • Slowly add the beef broth and stir until the gravy begins to thicken.
  • Add the sour cream and cook until the right consistency is obtained. Adjust with salt and pepper and season with paprika.
  • Serve the meatballs hot covered with the gravy.

Tips:

The original recipe calls for pan frying the Kottbullar meatballs instead of oven baking them.

Kottbullar are traditionally served with pickled dills, potatoes, or lingonberry jelly.

You can freeze the cooked meatballs. They are easy to heat up either in the oven or in the microwave.
