Wash and clean the fennels. Remove the tough outer layer and slice the bulbs in 1/2 inch strips.
Boil the fennel strips in salted water for about 10 minutes. Alternatively you can cook them in the microwave with a bit of water for about 10 minutes at high settings.
In the meantime prepare the Bechamel Sauce ↪ as described, using half doses for all the ingredients.
Lay the previously cooked fennel strips, after having drained them, in a baking pan and pour on top the bechamel sauce covering it entirely.
Sprinkle the grated parmigiano reggiano cheese all over the fennel gratin.
Cook in the pre heated oven for about 20 minutes at 400F until the top is brown. You can also broil for a few minutes for a quicker result.
Serve hot as a side or as a delicious and creamy main course.
